WHAT TO EXPECT
For starters, a damn good time.
We will be shooting in the blue-ridge mountains, so a good pair of shoes goes a long way. I'm more than happy to help you find your idea location here in Western North Carolina or beyond. I won't take you anywhere you’re uncomfortable traversing and on the same hand i’m down for whatever adventure you want to have.
I'm the type of photographer that won't over pose you or ask you to look in the camera very often. Using prompts; I focus on the small moments between thoughts, laughter and movement.
I'll bring you out to the wild - to bring out the wild in you.
-FAQ-
How long have you been doing this?
TL;DR: I launched Mountain Light Studio in May of 2020
But...
If we start from the first time I picked up a camera, it would be 14 years ago. Three years later my parents got me my first camera, a Canon rebel xsi.
It took years after that before I would really start learning the in's and out's of the camera and understand composition.
Even quicker than before a few years passed by and two kids later I pulled my old hobby off the back burner and finally got a new camera.
A Canon t7i was the best camera I could afford at the time. Suddenly I felt myself falling back in love with my oldest passion. I shot anything I could, filled up countless memory cards, and didn't make a penny. I wasn't ready yet. Taking on the responsibility that comes along with running a business was terrifying to me.
Until the fateful day one of my favorite photographers posted they were looking for an intern. I got to be that intern. My time spent with Shannon @foxandowlstudio helped me take my passion to the next level, which for me was a business. Bringing us to another new camera, my first full frame, a Canon 5d mark iv. If you haven't noticed there's a running theme here. I'm a Canon girl.
It was the whirlwind year of 2020 when I finally got my style, the gear, the business knowledge, the experience, and a trip to the woods to find it.
What was always all around me, mountain light.
Two years later and yet another Canon, this time a mirrorless R6, three new lenses, and perfecting my craft and business.
I'm doing the damn thing, and the best is yet to come.
Do you Travel?
Yes! We will travel anywhere in the continental USA to capture your love. Not sure where to go? When you inquire I will send you a little get to know you game and set up a time to have a video/phone call.
As travel cost do fluctuate the cost may vary depending on the time of year, and permit requirements.
How many photos do we get?
I am not the kind of photographer that limits my sessions to a certain number of photos. The truth is I overshoot and over deliver. I aim to capture the authentic moments of the in between, and I want you to see it all. Most of my galleries of 30 min - 1 hr typically yield 45-100+ images whereas weddings and elopements tend to be 300+
How do we get our photos?
All I need is your email. I'll send a link to your digital gallery where you will be able to download or share the gallery with friends and family. You can mark images as private for those that may be too spicy for Aunt Jan.
There's also a store feature built in to have your favorite photos printed, put on a magnet, puzzle, and so much more.
If you want the experience of seeing your gallery for the first time on paper, I've got you covered.
Do you retouch photos?
I have a few presets I've made that change my images from their natural true color, to bringing out the warm tones and the highlights. I blur out small blemishes and have even edited a tooth in. Please feel free to communicate any concerns you may have before your session as to whether or not you want light - heavy retouching.
Whats your turn around time?
Life is crazy as a photographer, part time bartender, and homeschool mom to two boys, so turn around times may vary depending on the time of year and the type of gallery I'll be delivering.
I aim to have a sneak peak (pun intended) out to you within a week of your session date. Full gallery delivery can range from 2-10 weeks depending.
How do we book you?
Easy peasy! Just scroll on up to the top of the page and click the 'contact' block. Fill out the contact form and I'll get back to you within 3 days. From there I'll send you a questionnaire and really get to know you and how you want to capture and share your story. Followed by a video/phone call to finalize all the details. The final steps will be to sign my contract and pay the deposit and BAM! You are on the books.
Can you help us with planning?
Sit back, relax, you just found the one.
I will help you plan as much as you feel the need for. I have a list of my trusted & favorite vendors and venues for weddings.
I also have extensive knowledge of trails and wilderness areas in WNC for elopements.
Not sure what you want? Lets talk!
How far out do you book?
I am currently booking up to one year in advance. If your needs extend this amount of time, don't hesitate to reach out.
What should we wear?
The most important thing is feeling comfortable and confident in what you choose to accentuate yourself with. Maybe it's that old jean jacket with the holes in the elbows, or your vans hiding under your wedding dress.
I always suggest a cute jacket in case it's chilly and a good pair of shoes goes a long way if we are out roaming the trails.
I know we love plaid but limiting patterns to one person is more pleasing to the eye.
